Wipro's Guidance Exposes a Weak Deal Pipeline Behind Q2 Growth

Wipro's Guidance Exposes a Weak Deal Pipeline Behind Q2 Growth

Wipro's headline revenue rose 9.1%, but constant-currency IT services growth was only 0.6% and large-deal bookings fell 58.6%, leaving third-quarter guidance roughly flat.

Wipro's second-quarter results look stronger at the headline level than they do inside the core IT services business. Gross revenue rose 9.1% from a year earlier to $2.583 billion, but constant-currency IT services revenue was flat sequentially and increased only 0.6% year over year.

The gap matters because management's third-quarter outlook remains cautious. Wipro expects IT services revenue of $2.571 billion to $2.625 billion, equivalent to a sequential constant-currency range of negative 1.5% to positive 0.5%. At the midpoint, the guidance implies little near-term expansion.

Bookings give investors another reason to be careful. Total bookings were $2.595 billion, down 22.9% sequentially in constant currency, while large-deal bookings fell 58.6% to $674 million. Contract awards vary from quarter to quarter and do not convert into revenue immediately, but such a large decline reduces visibility if it persists.

There were meaningful positives. IT services operating margin reached 16.5%, up 0.5 percentage points from the prior quarter. Operating cash flow rose 61.3% sequentially to $553.6 million and equaled 165.8% of quarterly net income. That cash conversion gives management room to keep investing even while demand remains uneven.

Net income was $333.9 million, down 4.7% from the prior quarter and 1.9% from a year earlier. The result shows why margin improvement alone is not enough to establish a growth recovery.

Management says its consulting-led, AI-powered strategy is helping create larger transformation opportunities. Investors now need evidence in the order book. A rebound in large-deal wins would support the claim that strategic investment is producing future revenue. Another weak booking quarter would make the improved margin look more defensive than growth-driven.

The central tension is therefore simple: Wipro is generating cash and protecting profitability, but its guidance and deal pipeline do not yet show a broad acceleration in demand.
