Robinhood's Growth Is Rising Faster Than Its Valuation Multiple

Robinhood's earnings estimates have improved while its forward multiple has contracted. The next test is whether deposits and newer businesses can offset volatile trading revenue and regulatory limits.

Robinhood fell 8.5% on October 14 after a Wolfe Research downgrade and a broader risk-off session, but the more important development predates that selloff. The stock's forward earnings multiple had already fallen from roughly 43 times at the end of 2025 to about 35 times, even as the next-12-month earnings estimate rose.

That combination is a de-rating, not an earnings collapse. It can create opportunity if estimates continue to rise, but it can also signal that investors no longer accept a premium valuation for growth tied to volatile trading activity.

Robinhood's second-quarter results show why the debate is complicated. Transaction-based revenue rose 44% from a year earlier to $776 million. Event contracts contributed $156 million, more than ten times the prior-year level, while options and equity trading also grew. Crypto revenue, however, fell 38% to $100 million. The mix is broadening, but activity-sensitive products still matter.

Management has tried to connect services rather than rely on a single trading cycle. Gold subscriptions, a credit card that directs rewards into brokerage accounts and new event-contract products can increase engagement. Yet sports contracts face state-level scrutiny, and some newer products have limited operating histories.

The next earnings report should be judged on net deposits, revenue quality and expense growth, not only headline EPS. Strong deposits would show that customer assets are accumulating even when markets are quieter. Weak deposits would leave the company more dependent on transaction bursts, while a mid-30s earnings multiple still demands credible growth.
