GE Vernova Wins Venture Global Reservations, but Orders Are Not Guaranteed

Venture Global reserved GE Vernova grid and power equipment for a potential 10-gigawatt expansion. Five grid packages and eight power islands are reserved, but most purchases remain optional and staged.

Venture Global has reserved manufacturing capacity from GE Vernova for a large behind-the-meter power expansion, including five grid-equipment packages and eight power islands. The scale is meaningful for GE Vernova's backlog opportunity, but the agreements are not the same as firm orders for the full program.

What has been reserved

Venture Global said the framework with GE Vernova and Baker Hughes could support up to 16 new 720-megawatt power-island units and more than 10 gigawatts of grid-independent capacity. The projects are intended to power industrial sites and adjacent data centers without relying on the public grid.

Loading market context

According to Venture Global's October 15 announcement and filing details in the source article, GE Vernova's Grid Solutions business would supply transformers and gas-insulated switchgear for as many as 21 power-island projects. Five grid packages are reserved, with purchase orders expected to begin in late 2026.

Venture Global expects to order its first GE Vernova power island by year-end and has reserved eight more, with orders expected from early 2027. Reservation fees secure manufacturing slots and agreed commercial terms, but neither party is obligated to complete every later purchase.

Why the grid piece matters

GE Vernova's Electrification backlog reached $45 billion by mid-September, up from $6 billion at the end of 2021, according to management comments cited in the source article. Data centers, transmission constraints and equipment shortages have increased demand for transformers, switchgear and grid software.

The company also completed its purchase of the remaining 50% of Prolec GE in February. That adds transformer capacity, but second-quarter Prolec results included $859 million of revenue and a $57 million pretax loss. More volume does not automatically mean attractive margin.

The reservation structure protects manufacturing access for Venture Global while delaying some capital commitments. For GE Vernova, it improves visibility into potential demand but leaves conversion risk. A reported $17.2 billion total for the broader program assumes all contemplated orders proceed and is not a disclosed guaranteed order value for GE Vernova alone.

The next evidence is conversion

Investors should watch actual purchase orders, deposits, backlog additions and segment margin rather than counting every reserved unit as revenue. Late-2026 grid orders and the first power-island order are the near-term milestones.

The agreement strengthens the case that electrification demand extends beyond public utilities into private power systems for data centers. Its value to shareholders will depend on how much of the framework becomes firm backlog and whether GE Vernova can deliver the equipment profitably.
