Zenzap Raises $44 Million to Bring Managed AI Into Workplace Chat

Zenzap raises $44M for its AI chat app that aims to replace WhatsApp in the workplace

Zenzap has raised $44 million for a workplace messenger aimed at teams still using consumer chat apps. Its opportunity is large, but adoption, retention and secure administration will decide the outcome.

Zenzap has raised $44 million to build a workplace messenger for organizations that still coordinate through consumer apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram and iMessage. The investor group includes Bessemer Venture Partners, Lightspeed, The Garage and several individual backers.

The startup is targeting a gap between informal chat and enterprise software. Consumer messengers are familiar and mobile-friendly, but they can leave companies with weak control over files, employee departures, data retention and access permissions. Zenzap combines chat, tasks, documents, voice and video with AI agents that can use organizational context.

Plans start at $51 a month for up to 20 users, according to TechCrunch. That price points the product toward small and midsize organizations as well as frontline teams that may not use Slack or Microsoft Teams consistently. Zenzap says organizations including Starbucks and Taco Bell use the product, but the reporting did not disclose paid-seat counts, contract sizes or retention.

The adoption question

The company’s biggest advantage may also be its hardest challenge. Workers already know consumer chat, so a similar interface can lower training friction. Yet persuading a whole organization to switch communication systems requires more than an appealing app. IT teams need identity management, audit logs, data residency, integrations and reliable export when a customer leaves.

AI agents can make the product more useful by turning messages into tasks, retrieving policy information and coordinating workflows. They also increase the cost of mistakes. An agent with broad access can expose sensitive context or take an incorrect action at scale, making permissions and human confirmation central product features.

Zenzap was founded in 2022 and employs about 50 people across the United States, Tel Aviv and Europe. The funding provides room to expand product development and sales, but it also creates expectations for growth in a market dominated by Microsoft, Google, Meta and Salesforce’s Slack.

The meaningful metrics are paid organizations, active users, net retention, security certifications and the share of customers using AI workflows repeatedly. A large financing round validates investor interest. It does not yet prove that workplace chat users will change habits or that Zenzap can support enterprise-grade governance.
