Foot Locker and NIKE, Inc. Partner with Crenshaw Community Leaders to Unveil First-of-Its-Kind Retail Experience for Sport, Culture and Connection

The Crenshaw Rec by Foot Locker combines exclusive products, community programming and local hiring, creating a neighborhood-led retail model that could deepen sneaker engagement and provide a framework for similar locations.

Foot Locker and NIKE, Inc. announced The Crenshaw Rec by Foot Locker on Aug. 17, 2026, a first-of-its-kind retail destination at 3222 W Slauson Ave. on Crenshaw Boulevard in South Los Angeles. The location will open Saturday, Aug. 22. Inspired by Crenshaw’s legacy of sport, entrepreneurship and creativity, the site is designed as both a store and community hub. Developed with Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse, it will include an equipment room, open gym, hyper-local collections, creative workspaces and a resource center hosting year-round programming. The concept draws on recreation centers’ role as gathering places and is located alongside Dorset Village, a landmark connected to the neighborhood’s identity. Foot Locker and NIKE worked with local athletes, tastemakers and community leaders, including Nipsey Hussle’s The Marathon Brand, Los Angeles designer Gavin Mathieu of Supervsn Studios, Crenshaw High School, local vendors and artists. Samiel Asghedom, co-founder of The Marathon Brand, said the family was honored to participate, noting that Hussle sold mixtapes from the shopping center’s parking lot and would have supported youth initiatives there. Programming will include educational workshops, music academies, run clubs, barber shop cuts and other celebrations. Exclusive merchandise will include a Crenshaw High School x Nike Team Shop collection and a capsule by Gavin Mathieu. Local-business pop-ups will support future collaborations, while the Crenshaw Striper Program will hire neighborhood residents and help shape the in-store experience. For the opening, Foot Locker will host a public Community Swap Meet and 3v3 tournament with local vendors, community partners and special guests from 10 a.m. to store close. For investors, the initiative tests whether localized retail and community programming can deepen engagement with Foot Locker’s sneaker authority and NIKE’s athletic and lifestyle brands. It is the first expression of the concept, and the companies are exploring similar neighborhood-driven experiences in additional communities. Foot Locker operates across North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, with licensed stores in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Converse is NIKE’s wholly owned subsidiary.
