OpenAI is rolling out Intelligent UI, a ChatGPT interface that can combine text with interactive charts, controls, diagrams and task-specific tools. The feature accompanies GPT-6 and is designed to choose a presentation suited to the question rather than returning the same text-first layout every time.
The product change matters because interface quality can become a competitive advantage separate from model accuracy. A savings calculator, editable chart or visual explanation can reduce the work users must do after receiving an answer. It may also expand AI usage among people who find a blank chat box or long blocks of text difficult to navigate.
Interactive output creates additional obligations. Controls must represent the underlying calculation correctly, visuals must not imply precision that the evidence does not support, and generated tools need clear boundaries when a task involves money, health or other high-stakes decisions. A polished interface can make an incorrect result more persuasive.
OpenAI says users can reduce visual elements and that the rollout spans paid tiers before reaching Free and Go users. The investor takeaway is broader than one release: consumer AI competition is shifting from model benchmarks toward complete product experiences. Adoption will depend on whether the new interfaces save time consistently without introducing harder-to-detect errors.
