Citi reshuffled its crypto-equity ratings ahead of third-quarter earnings, favoring Galaxy Digital and Coinbase while taking a more cautious view of Securitize after its rally. The changes are useful as a map of business-specific expectations, but they do not make the four companies interchangeable bets on digital assets.
Galaxy and Coinbase get the strongest endorsement
Citi upgraded Galaxy Digital to Buy from Neutral and raised its price target to $28 from $26. The new target was about 41% above the prior close cited by the source. Reporting on the note said the bank saw improving visibility in Galaxy's artificial-intelligence and high-performance-computing business, adding a driver beyond cryptocurrency trading.
Coinbase kept a Buy rating and received a target increase to $230 from $210, roughly 27.5% above the prior close in the source. Citi pointed to derivatives, prediction markets and stablecoins as increasingly important growth engines. Those businesses can diversify revenue, but several remain tied to trading activity, regulation and the economics of stablecoin reserves.
A less negative view of Gemini
Citi upgraded Gemini to Neutral from Sell and raised its target to $4.75 from $3.20. The bank cited improving volumes, a more balanced risk-reward profile and the stock's pullback. A Neutral rating matters here because it signals reduced downside concern rather than a strong positive thesis.
Gemini's smaller scale can amplify both operating leverage and risk. Higher trading volume may lift revenue quickly, but the same sensitivity works in reverse when activity weakens. Investors need evidence from actual earnings rather than treating the target increase as confirmation that the business has reached durable profitability.
Why Securitize moved down
Securitize was downgraded to Neutral from Buy even though Citi still favored tokenization as a theme. Other reports placed the new price target at $14, up from $10. The combination of a higher target and lower rating shows that valuation can offset a favorable business outlook after a strong share-price move.
That distinction is central to the whole group. Tokenization, stablecoins and market infrastructure can grow while a particular stock disappoints if expectations already reflect the opportunity. Analyst targets also depend on assumptions about volumes, take rates, regulation and capital needs.
The upcoming earnings reports should be judged on operating evidence: transaction and subscription revenue at Coinbase, infrastructure and data-center progress at Galaxy, volumes and costs at Gemini, and issuance or asset growth at Securitize. Citi's revisions identify where expectations changed. They do not remove the need to compare those expectations with cash flow and balance-sheet capacity.
