Strategy Slows Bitcoin Buying as Preferred-Share Buybacks Accelerate

Strategy Adds 250 BTC to Holdings as STRC Buybacks Accelerate

Strategy bought 250 bitcoin for $21.5 million while spending $192.4 million to repurchase STRC preferred shares. The week shows a broader capital-allocation balance between accumulation, financing costs and liquidity.

Strategy bought 250 bitcoin for $21.5 million during the week ended October 11, 2026, while spending far more on repurchasing its STRC preferred shares. The contrast shows that the company's capital allocation now extends beyond accumulating bitcoin to managing the securities used to finance that strategy.

The bitcoin purchase

Strategy said the 250 bitcoin were acquired at an average price of $86,194, including fees and expenses. The purchase raised total holdings to 848,250 bitcoin acquired for about $64.0 billion, or an average of $75,444 per bitcoin.

The company financed $21.0 million of the weekly purchase with sales of MSTR common stock and used about $0.5 million of cash. The new bitcoin represented roughly 0.03% of the total holdings, so the purchase by itself does not materially change the scale of the balance sheet.

Preferred-share repurchases were larger

Strategy repurchased about 1.93 million STRC shares for $192.4 million during the same week. It reported $354.8 million of remaining authorization for STRC repurchases and $1.0 billion under its MSTR common-stock repurchase program.

Buying preferred shares below what management considers attractive value can reduce future dividend obligations or improve market support, but it also uses liquidity that could otherwise buy bitcoin, repay debt or fund reserves. The company reported a $4.88 billion U.S. dollar reserve designated for preferred dividends and debt interest, plus $640.5 million of separate cash as of October 11.

What investors should measure

The relevant analysis is not whether 250 bitcoin is a large headline number. Investors should track bitcoin purchased per diluted common share, new shares issued, preferred obligations, cash reserves and the market prices at which securities are issued or repurchased. A higher bitcoin balance can still leave common shareholders worse off if financing costs or dilution rise faster.

BTI's conclusion is that Strategy continues to expand its bitcoin holdings, but the week's larger preferred buyback is the more important capital-allocation signal. The company is actively managing both sides of its financing structure. Future value depends on bitcoin prices, security issuance terms and whether repurchases improve per-share economics rather than only shrinking a quoted share count.
