BlackRock Crypto ETF Assets Rebound, but Stay Below 2025 Peak

BlackRock's crypto ETF assets surge 63% but remain far below 2025 peak

BlackRock's digital asset funds recovered to $79.6 billion after $7.9 billion of quarterly inflows and higher crypto prices, yet assets remained 23% below their year-earlier level.

BlackRock's digital asset funds staged a sharp third-quarter rebound, but the composition of the increase shows that market prices did more work than new investor money.

The funds ended the quarter with $79.6 billion in assets, up 63% from the prior quarter, according to CoinDesk's report on BlackRock's results. They attracted $7.9 billion of net inflows, reversing about $2.2 billion of outflows during the first half of 2026.

Crypto price appreciation contributed $22.9 billion of the $30.8 billion quarterly increase in assets. That is roughly 74% of the gain, based on BTI's calculation. The remainder came primarily from net subscriptions, with smaller differences possible from rounding and fund movements.

That mix leaves the quarterly result highly sensitive to bitcoin and ether prices. The distinction matters because assets under management can rise through two different mechanisms. New money suggests stronger customer demand and supports fee growth directly. Market appreciation raises the fee base too, but it can reverse quickly when bitcoin and other crypto assets decline.

Even after the rebound, BlackRock's digital asset assets remained 23% below their level a year earlier. Investors added $6.3 billion over the previous 12 months, according to the report, so weaker market values rather than a complete collapse in subscriptions explain much of the year-over-year gap.

BlackRock's broader third-quarter filing showed $205 billion of companywide net inflows and about $15.5 trillion in total assets under management. Digital assets therefore remain a small part of the group, even though their growth rate and volatility are much higher than those of the overall platform.

For BlackRock shareholders, the crypto recovery is positive but not transformational. It expands the fee base and demonstrates renewed demand for the firm's exchange-traded products, while leaving earnings exposed to crypto prices. The more durable signal will be whether positive net inflows continue during periods when digital asset prices are flat or falling.
