BridgeBio shares fell 28% from their July high through October 9 even as several analysts stayed bullish. Barclays maintained an Overweight rating and set a $156 target, but the target requires much more than a recovery in sentiment.
The company has delivered real commercial growth. The source report said second-quarter U.S. Attruby revenue reached $222.4 million, compared with $71.5 million a year earlier. Attruby treats transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy, and its early launch benefited from patients switching from an older therapy.
That easy pool is becoming smaller. BridgeBio management said the switch opportunity was settling into a lower steady state about 18 months after launch. Future growth therefore depends more heavily on newly diagnosed patients, prescribing persistence and broader adoption. The company also reported a wider-than-expected quarterly loss while preparing multiple launches.
A binary catalyst with commercial consequences
The FDA gave BBP-418 Priority Review and set November 27, 2026 as the target action date. BridgeBio says the Phase 3 FORTIFY trial met its primary and secondary endpoints at the 12-month interim analysis. Approval would make BBP-418 the first therapy for LGMD2I/R9 and could add another commercial product, but approval is not guaranteed and launch execution would bring new spending.
The valuation debate should separate regulatory success from the analyst target. At the October 9 close cited by the source, Barclays' $156 target implied 139% upside. That percentage is a forecast, not evidence. It assumes strong revenue growth, successful launches and a much richer sales multiple.
What investors can verify next
The November FDA decision is the immediate test. After that, initial patient access, pricing, launch costs and uptake will determine whether BBP-418 adds durable value. For Attruby, new-patient starts matter more than the fading switch pool.
BridgeBio has multiple shots on goal, but the stock remains a commercial and regulatory execution story. The operating data can justify optimism; they do not make a $156 target inevitable.
