Apple's $299 HomeView Ties Smart-Home Control to Siri AI

Apple HomeView smart home hub opens for preorders at $299

Apple opened HomeView preorders at $299 ahead of a November 13 launch. The smart display combines household controls, video monitoring and Siri AI, but its value depends on Apple devices, iCloud services and regional availability.

Apple has opened preorders for HomeView, a $299 smart display that will reach customers on November 13. The device combines a seven-inch screen, speaker, camera and smart-home controls, placing Siri AI at the center of a household product rather than only on a phone or computer.

A household screen with personal profiles

HomeView can recognize users through its camera and load individual profiles for as many as six household members. It can show messages, calendars, reminders and FaceTime for people who connect an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone or iPad. Apple also says people without a compatible mobile device can use Siri AI's general knowledge and conversational features.

The hub can control supported locks, blinds, lights and other HomeKit devices. It can display as many as nine camera feeds at once, while an iCloud+ subscription enables encrypted recognition of people, pets, packages and vehicles in compatible camera footage. That makes the product partly a hardware sale and partly another reason for households to remain inside Apple's device and services ecosystem.

Hardware choices define the use case

The screen adjusts its interface according to viewing distance and moves on a stainless-steel hinge attached to the speaker base. Apple specifies an LCD display with brightness from 0.3 to 500 nits. A wall-mounted model costs the same $299, but its power connector starts at an additional $60 and it comes in fewer colors.

Apple says Siri requests can run locally or through Private Cloud Compute, where data is not stored or made accessible to Apple or other parties. That privacy architecture is central to the pitch because HomeView can connect household video, communications and personal context in one place. Users still need to decide whether the convenience justifies concentrating that information in a shared device.

The competitive question

HomeView enters a market already served by Amazon's Echo Show and Google's Nest Hub. Apple's advantage is integration with iPhone, Apple services and HomeKit security features. Its constraints are the same: the strongest features require other Apple hardware or subscriptions, and Apple says the product is not being sold in the European Union because Siri AI is unavailable there in iOS.

HomeView is unlikely to change Apple's financial profile on its own. The more important signal will be whether it increases HomeKit accessory use, iCloud+ subscriptions and household engagement with Siri AI. Early availability is limited to a group of countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and India, so regional expansion and actual household adoption will matter more than preorder headlines.
