Accenture has put dates and numbers around its answer to a question that has weighed on the stock: will generative AI shrink consulting work faster than it creates new demand? At its fiscal 2027 investor day, the company targeted mid-single-digit revenue growth in local currency in fiscal 2027 and 2028, followed by mid-to-high-single-digit growth in fiscal 2029.
That path matters because it is an acceleration plan, not simply a promise to defend the existing business. Accenture also expects adjusted operating margin to expand by 10 to 30 basis points a year through fiscal 2029. Management said acquisitions should add roughly 2% to 2.5% to fiscal 2027 revenue, so investors will need to separate purchased growth from the underlying performance of consulting and managed services.
The starting point is strong enough to make the targets credible, but not strong enough to settle the debate. Accenture reported fiscal 2026 revenue of $74.18 billion, adjusted operating margin of 15.8% and free cash flow of $11.6 billion. It also generated $84.5 billion of new bookings, a book-to-bill ratio of about 1.1. That ratio suggests demand exceeded recognized revenue, although bookings can be converted over different periods and do not guarantee near-term sales.
Capital returns add another measurable commitment. Accenture plans about $5.5 billion of share repurchases in fiscal 2027 and expects buybacks to exceed stock issuance across the plan period. The company returned $11.5 billion to shareholders in fiscal 2026 through dividends and repurchases. Those distributions can support per-share results, but they do not answer whether AI-driven productivity will pressure pricing.
The next useful evidence will come from fiscal 2027 organic growth, pricing and margins. If AI lets Accenture deliver projects with fewer hours while the company wins larger transformation programs, revenue and margin can rise together. If productivity savings mostly flow to clients, mid-single-digit growth may depend heavily on acquisitions. The investor day therefore did not eliminate the AI risk. It converted that risk into a scorecard that investors can check quarter by quarter.
